Snake

Snake Boxing is one of Chinese Wushu’s many styles. This style of Wushu promotes flexibility, increase speed and
is an excellent form of self-defense that also keeps your body healthy. There is precious little written material
available about Snake Boxing. Many believe that Snake Boxing techniques are foundation sets in traditional Shaolin
and family styles. It also influences some internal styles of Kung Fu such as Bagua Zhang and Tai Chi Chuan.

Students of Snake Boxing spend a lot of time working on accuracy and precision. They also practice a great deal of
time in timing, distancing, effort, target and opportunity. Snake Boxing is a style of Kung Fu that focuses on
simplicity, speed, and accuracy. It uses hard and soft internal power to defeat an opponent.

When attacking, the Snake Boxer goes for vulnerable spots like the eyes, throat and groin. The Snake Boxer uses its
fingertips and palms to strike an opponent’s pressure points. One of its trademarks was the tongue strike, two
fingers aiming often at arteries and veins. Another hand technique used by the Snake Boxing student is the cobra
hand, an open hand with the thumb curled underneath in order to maintain dynamic tension. This is used to strike
nerves and pressure points. Due to its emphasis on hitting weak points of the body, the Snake Boxer needs to have
the best possible knowledge of the human body. This enables them to use the Dim Mak technique.

Snake Moves

Most Snake Boxing practitioners use an upright, mobile stance. This stance allows for rapid advances and
sidestepping footwork. If attacked, the Snake Boxer bobs and weaves, looking much like anyone else, until an
opening presents itself. The strikes are quick and in succession, hitting the same opening over and over. Kicks are
low, snappy, and aimed at the shins, knee, or top of the foot. The Snake Boxer allows only one contact and that is its
attack. Usually the Snake Boxer would not block an attack directly with physical strength, but would absorb it using
circular movements, coil around it, and slide along the attacking limb to strike the opponents weak spots.

Practitioners of Snake Boxing must be calm and peaceful due to its deadly attacks. The Snake Boxer should always
avoid fights. It is only when there is no recourse but to fight, and the situation serious enough to warrant it that one
should use the Snake Boxing techniques.
